The Nigerian passport is currently ranked 88^th on the Henley Passport Index which compares visa requirement for 199 different passports and 227 different travel destinations. The Index provides global citizens and sovereign states a standard reference tool for assessing how a passport ranks on international mobility spectrum.

A passport scores a value of plus one for each travel destination that accords its holder the privilege of visa-free, visa on arrival (voa) or electronic travel authority (eta) entry. It scores a value of zero for destinations that require a visa. The total score for each passport is equal to the number of destinations for which no visa is required

Henley Passport Index ranking draws on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA) and it is updated every month. The current ranking was released on July 18. Nigerian passport has gained some four points this year as it was ranked 92 earlier in the year.
